Week 1: Getting Started

We had a lot of planning to do this week, but the class came up with some really great ideas for components of our own unique TV channel. We'll be making quite a bit of material, starting with a "preview of a zombie horror movie" and an "action/comedy car chase scene". We've all got our
work cut out for us but it's going to be worth it!

Sketchbook Warm-ups

One goal of this class is to refine creative expressivity by practicing skills in drawing from our imagination. Every day students spend 10 minutes working on a different "sketch challenges". Here are some examples of work from week one!

Week 2: Shooting Footage!

The class worked super hard this week finishing their set pieces, putting together costumes (from my trusted collection of items), and shooting lots of footage. The results were really exciting! It was fun to watch all the footage and plan how we will edit it together. Phase one of our project is complete!

Sketchbook Warm-ups

Our warm-up drawings continue to develop.  Each student is facing the challenge of having an image in his or her mind and trying to get it onto the page.

Week Three: Stop Motion

This week we worked on making our own stop motion animations, using clay, toys, paper and cardboard. Each group devised their own plot-line and worked as a team to make it come alive. One group worked in live action to make an original commercial for our TV channel, with some team members directing and some performing.

Sketchbook Warm-ups

We did fewer drawings this week because we had so much work to do on our stop motions, but the students took on new challenges by working in color and sketching images of memory and family.

Week Four: The Final Stages!

It seems like only yesterday that we started planning our projects, and here we are in our final week! We finished up stop motion and live action footage with some overdubbing, and then got together during our final class to shoot some  last short bits of dancing for the music video finale of our TV show. All in all, it's been a great class. All of the students worked hard, tried new things and came up with wild ideas. To watch our final project, click here. Enjoy!
